the trial ideas

It seems that maybe the whole time he was already guilty in their eyes because of his persistance of trying to prove hes innocent. But also then again towards the ending of the book it seems as if hes kinda excepting the fact that this may never end and he just has to go along with it.Its weird that we still  never really know exactly what, and if he even did anything, but if i werent guilty and these two men took me somewhere and laid me down to soon kill me, i would just lay there and accept it. Im curious as to why he didnt really say anything to stop what was happening, and who/what is it that weekened him so much.
